Trip Outline
From Thessaloniki we will start at 7:30, and after 1 hour we will reach Litochoro. From Pieria we will pick you up at 8:45. At Litochoro we will make a short stop for refreshments and supplies. We will follow the road to the core of the Olympus National Park and in 30 minutes we will be at Prionia with its picturesque tavern. Prionia is our starting point and from here begins the well-marked path to Refuge A. During our ascent we will find places where we can enjoy the view and have small stop. The vegetation in the first part is dense with some breeze, in the last part, the path the vegetation decreases to be followed by the centuries old Robola (Bosnian pine trees). You can see the shelter and the peaks from afar, but we will need some more time to reach it. The refuge A (or Spilios Agapitos or Zolotasw) is the first organized mountain refuge in Greece and the best organized, has a large paved courtyard where we can enjoy the wonderful view to the peaks and at the same time the large gorge of Enipeas, Litochoro and Thermaikos gulf with Olympus riviera. At this point we will decide either make a small stop for a drink and snack and go down for a great meal at Prionia, or take longer time to enjoy our meal in a place with full of energy and start our descending full and joyfull. It’s up to you guys!
